Council wishes to provide an update on the current water main break that is effecting supply within the Lithgow area.

Staff have attempted a repair and have been hampered due to the pipeline being laid directly on the sandstone rock shelf. To undertake the repair staff are now having to jackhammer the sandstone shelf sufficient to accommodate the pipe and fittings required for the repair. This has delayed the repair and the revised estimated time to restore service is 11.30pm.

Council wishes to advise that once service resumes it will take some time before the system refills and that normal water service resumes to all customers. Upon return of normal service, residents may experience dirty water for a period. Council will endeavour to minimise this by flushing the mains. Before using the water for domestic purposes, residents are advised to run a tap to ensure the water is clean and any dirt released into the system has been flushed.

Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause but is working to rectify the issues as soon as possible.
