Strathfield gains a new community centre

For immediate release 12 November 2019 To meet the meeting needs of the Community, the former High Street Branch Library has been transformed into a public space, available for community groups to run programs and activities from. All library services previously operating out of High Street have moved to Strathfield Library, located at 65-67 Rochester Street, Homebush, except for a book locker which has been installed at High Street. The project also includes an upgrade of Strathfield Library, due to be delivered in March 2020, which will enhance the library experience for all visitors.

Strathfield Library Upgrade

For immediate release 21 October 2019     Council is pleased to announce a $1.7 million upgrade of Strathfield Library, located at 65-67 Rochester St, Homebush, is planned to commence in December 2019. The planned upgrade will ensure that the Library can provide the community with a more comfortable and engaging space, that enhances learning and information sharing. The planned upgrade will include: -       An exhibition square -       Multi-purpose space -       Children’s area -       Internal study stadium -       Computer lab -       Open meeting quarters   As a result of the planned upgrade, there will be reduced services available from Monday 2 December and the library will be shut down after Friday 20 December 2019 until March 2020.  The services available to members during the planned upgrade will be a home library service and use of the book locker which allows members to book, collect and return items 24/7.

Draft Local Strategic Planning Statement - Strathfield 2040

Strathfield 2040 defines our 20 year land use vision and consolidates local land use planning priorities and considers future local employment, housing, transport and environmental management options. At the conclusion of the exhibition period we will compile and analyse all the feedback received and make amendments to the LSPS where required.  Following this we will be undergoing a health check assessment process which will provide further feedback on the draft LSPS from New South Wales (NSW) State Government agencies and the Greater Sydney Commission.  The LSPS may again be modified based on the feedback during this process. Participate in Emergency Preparedness Week

As a participating Council in the Resilient Sydney program, Emergency Preparedness Week 23-29 September, Strathfield Council is collaborating with the Councils of Sydney to create a metropolis that is connected, inclusive and resilient. The Get Prepared app helps residents connect with key support people, accomplish simple tasks to make loved ones safer, and protect the things that matter most to them. Residents can: -       Establish a quick and easy network of support with three key contacts -       Review the risks relevant to where they live -       Create checklists of actions to make an emergency plan -       Save the emergency plan as a PDF to be printed and shared with others.

Strathfield Spring Festival 2019

The annual Strathfield Spring Festival is back for another family-fun day!    The Main Stage will be all about the kids with an entertainment line-up featuring best-selling children’s music artist and author, Justine Clarke performing some her hit songs Gumtree Family, Watermelon and Song to Make You Smile. Entry is free and there will be something for the whole family to enjoy – including music, entertainment, face painting, pony rides, amusement rides, and various food and market stalls. As a family-friendly event celebrating the international cultures of our local area, the Spring Festival will surely keep everyone entertained!

Ironbark Gallery to Showcase Local Talent!

For immediate release 19 July 2019   Strathfield Council is calling all emerging and established local artists to exhibit their artwork in a new gallery space at the Strathfield library!  As Council supports the Ironbark Gallery and provides a Curator to manage the exhibition process, there is no cost involved for artists. There will also be opportunities to sell artworks, facilitate workshops and engage the local community to participate in artistic programs. Artists are encouraged to submit an application with their supporting material by Wednesday 31 July 2019.
