City of Canada Bay has helped local resident Regula Scheidegger’s Inner West tree change blossom.

“Regula Scheidegger is one of our most valued Cabarita Bushcare volunteers. It is volunteers like Regula who are the heart and soul of our community,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“This National Tree Day we will be celebrating not only the hard work of our Bushcare team, but all those like Regula who volunteer their time and energy caring for our beautiful natural environment.”

Originally from Switzerland, Regula and her husband intended to stay only a few years when they first arrived in Australia.

“After 34 years in Australia, my husband and I moved to a unit in Cabarita. I saw the Bushcare sign near Harmony Point and without a proper garden to look after, I thought I might get my hands dirty as a volunteer,” Cabarita Bushcare volunteer Regula Scheidegger said.

“I like to see the natural environment in a lovely condition. At Bushcare, I learn about the saltmarsh, native plants and weeds and enjoy the company of other volunteers and Council supervisors.”

“Apart from our monthly meeting, I often end my morning walks pulling out weeds and collecting rubbish on the rocks around Cape Cabarita. My husband and I are very fortunate to live in this beautiful part of Sydney and I like to give something back,” Regula said.

“Our local natural areas require regular and ongoing attention to preserve their ecological value and biodiversity,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“I am thankful for all our Bushcare staff and volunteers, including Regula, who work hard all year round protecting some of our most precious natural environments.”

“Teams work across our City in the bush and along our picturesque foreshore areas including Prince Edward Park in Cabarita, Sisters Bay in Drummoyne, and Lovedale Place in Concord West.”
