With a record $190.7 million anticipated spending on an extensive capital works program over the next four years, Wollondilly Shire Council’s next draft Operational Plan and Budget continues to place a massive investment into roads and priority infrastructure assets across the Shire as Council prepares for the growth ahead.

The program includes a significant $57.3 million investment in 2024/25 for infrastructure delivery all across the Shire, from Warragamba to Yanderra, Oakdale to Menangle and Appin to Thirlmere.

A proposed budget of $30.9 million for roads in 2024/25 will build on the massive investment in recent years, with an emphasis on road renewal.

The upcoming year will also see the creation of a new civil road crew, as well as additional road surveillance and inspection resources. This is on top of Council’s 2023/24 investment in a new traffic control crew, the 2022/23 investment in a new drainage and vegetation crew, and 2020/21 investment in a new road patching and maintenance crew.

Mayor Matt Gould said, “Our Council is proud that this draft Operational Plan focuses on delivering the important services and facilities that support our community right across the Shire.”

“Along with another record investment in roads and infrastructure projects, in the year ahead Council will continue to place a strong focus on continuous improvement, enhanced service delivery and organisational performance.”

“In recent years we have been transforming our Council into a modern professional organisation, so that we are able to play a lead role in shaping the future growth of the Shire.”

“At this crucial time in our Shire’s history we need to provide the appropriate resources to enable the delivery of core services for the community, as well as plan for and respond to the future growth of the Shire.”

When it comes to planning for the future, more resources will be focussed on rural and employment planning and growth area management, supporting the viability of agriculture and affordable farming across the Shire and creating jobs and sustainable outcomes in our growth areas.

Council will also concentrate on improving the customer experience, with the Customer Experience Enhancement Plan driving delivery of excellent customer service through all Council’s interactions, projects and initiatives for the coming year.

In another positive move for the community, Council will be investing in the arts and culture of the Shire through the operation of the new Wollondilly Performing Arts Centre, which is due to open early in the 2024/25 Financial Year.

The 2024/25 draft Operational Plan and Budget, Revenue Policy, Capital Works Program and Fees and Charges will be placed on public exhibition for a period of 28 days, from 1 to 28 May 2024 on Council’s Your Say website.
