FREE Permaculture and Social Enterprise Design Course offered to Blue Mountains Youth in January, to…
Blue Mountains 24 Dec 2021

Young residents of the Blue Mountains aged between 16 – 24 years are being offered the opportunity to participate in a free, three-day Permaculture and Social Enterprise Design Course which will start on 5 January, 2022.

This workshop is brought to Blue Mountains Youth thanks to the support of the Blue Mountains Pluriversity, Council’s Blue Mountains Planetary Health Initiative, and funding from the NSW State Government’s Youth Opportunities Program.

During the course participants will learn how to grow food organically and regeneratively, and restore natural ecosystems.

Participants will also work collaboratively to create a permaculture design of the old Katoomba Golf Course, reimagining it as a centre for Planetary Health. They will also work collaboratively to design social enterprises that provide meaningful livelihoods that can meet our communities’ needs.

The 72 hour internationally recognised Permaculture Design Course will also be followed by an optional mentoring program to develop the social enterprises designed during the course.

Participants will learn more advanced skills for restoring Planetary Health and for running a business, being supported to ‘earn while you learn’ during this mentoring program.

Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “I think this is wonderful program for our young people to be involved in as permaculture is such a powerful method for teaching us all how to live sustainability. I look forward to seeing what ideas and social enterprise initiatives emerge from this dynamic and all-important space.”

BMCC CEO Dr Rosemary Dillon said: “2022 is going to a big year where Council will continue to roll out a city-wide Planetary Health Action Program.  Our intention is to provide local, regional and potentially broader benefits including a range of education, research and local job creation projects.”
