Bathurst 7 Feb 2020

MEDIA RELEASE 7 February 2020

The second stage of the CBD CCTV project will commence on Monday, 10 February.

The CCTV scheme is aimed at increasing safety and deterring crime and antisocial behaviour. Installation of the CCTV is a staged rollout, with stage one commissioned in July last year.

Mayor Bobby Bourke said the second stage of the project includes the expansion of the control centres, laying of fibre and installation of ten cameras along William St, Keppel St, Russell Street, Howick & George Street.

“The cameras will cover sections of Keppel St, Havannah St, William St, George St, Russell St, Howick St, Piper St and Machattie Park,” he said.

Works will commence on Monday, 10 February with the location of existing underground services in sections of Russell and Rankin Streets and underboring to commence shortly after.

Underboring will take approximately twelve to sixteen weeks to complete followed by cabling and camera installation works. While the underboring is underway, there will be an impact on parking. A truck and trailer will be parked in the street at the pit entry and exit point. These vehicles will take approximately six carparks. The system is expected to go live in June.

The project is funded with $400,000 from the Federal Government and $250,000 from Council. For more information visit the Smart Communities page at www.bathurst.nsw.gov.au
