Celebrate Grandparents Day with Council

Published Tuesday, 22nd October 2019

Celebrate the special grandparent in your life at Fairfield City Council’s free Grandparents Day event at Fairfield Youth and Community Centre on Sunday 27 October.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone invites the community to the family picnic day for a free sausage sizzle, light refreshments, activities, exhibitions, live entertainment and much more.

“Grandparents Day gives us the chance to recognise the older people in our lives for the invaluable contributions they make to their family and community,” Mayor Carbone said.

“More and more we are seeing grandparents stepping in the role of caregivers to their grandchildren; sharing stories and engaging in fun activities, helping socialise children, teaching them empathy and character while providing an unconditional love not found elsewhere.

“The Grandparents Day event is an opportunity for families across the generations to invest in some quality time with each other. I encourage grandparents, their children and grandchildren to bring a picnic rug and enjoy the free family activities.”

Established in 2011, NSW Grandparents Day celebrates the vital role that older people play in our society. Grandparents hold a special place in our families, serving as elders, caregivers, and sources of lasting inspiration. Grandparents Day honours these special individuals who have contributed immeasurably to the strength of our families and community.
