New stairs linking Bayview and Church Point

A striking set of new stairs through the Road Reserve at Church Point has been recently completed, providing residents with much easier access down the steep, heavily vegetated area.

The Bayview Church Point Residents Association received a grant under the State Government Community Building Partnership program to fund the stairs.

Northern Beaches Council supported the project with contract management and project delivery.

On 28 May, Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan joined Bayview and Church Point residents in an informal launch of the long-awaited, new stairway, which connects Captain Hunter Road to the top of Quarter Sessions Road. 

Built after extensive local community consultation, the stylish new stairs are made from fibre-reinforced polymer and feature two flights, each 1.2 metres wide.

Mayor Regan congratulated the Bayview Church Point Residents Association members and its vice president, Ms Rob Conroy, on initiating the project and thanked them for working closely with Council and the community to complete the project.

The stairway will give residents better access to public transport, local facilities and businesses in the Church Point commercial hub.

They should also reduce motor vehicle dependence, promote fitness and healthy outdoor activity, environmental appreciation and social inclusion, benefiting residents and visitors alike
