Council has identified a culvert failure as part of its inspection program which will require urgent works. This failed structure is located approximately 3km from Bellingen on North Bank Road locally known as Slarkes Culvert.

Council has immediately installed a number of temporary emergency measures to ensure the safe use of this road while detailed investigations were undertaken. These emergency measures include:

Monitoring by council staff on a very regular basis Load limiting to 10 tonne Erection of a 10km/hr speed zone and one lane signage over the culvert

Detailed investigations have revealed that the culvert structure will require urgent attention and it will be necessary to undertake emergency works requiring the installation of a temporary bridge at this culvert.

These works will result in:

Full closure of North Bank Road at this location from Monday 27 May to Thursday 30 May 2019 Council has liaised with bus services to provide turnaround areas either side of the culvert to allow continuation of its services Variable Message boards will be placed at both ends of North Bank Road advising motorists of this closure.

This temporary bridge will remain in place including restricted speed limit while the Council determines a long term solution.

The community will be kept informed of this developing issue. A separate CREATE page (create.bellingen.nsw.gov.au) will be established to assist in keeping the community informed.
