STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, but is also a philosophy of education that introduces problem solving in in a way that resembles real life. It’s getting a lot of attention these days as educators—including staff at Council’s early learning centres—look at new ways of making learning more fun for children.

Northern Beaches Council’s early learning centres are embracing STEM concepts in their activities each day so that children develop confidence, thinking skills and the ability to work together to solve problems. In essence, we’re nurturing the minds of Australia’s next generation of little scientists and engineers!

Belrose Children’s Centre is the first of our centres to become certified, and is now known as a Little Scientist House.

STEM is supported through the Australian Government Department of Education and Training.
