Snowy Monaro Regional Council is excited to open feedback for the proposed learner bike track at Cooma’s Nijong Oval sporting precinct.

The proposed learner bike track is set to become one of the region’s favourite family attractions. The track is set to be delivered through the Stronger Communities Fund Major Projects Program.

The Snowy Monaro has an active cycling community. The bike track will help children learn the basics of safe riding, in an environment that, as far as possible, mirrors real riding conditions. Council is now seeking the community’s feedback on the proposed learner bike track via the Your Say Snowy Monaro website, link below. Feedback is open until 5pm Monday 4 March.

The community is also encouraged to attend a site meeting on Thursday 28 February at 4pm (meet at the new Nijong Oval playground) to learn more about the design and location of the proposed bike track.

In 2012, the then Cooma-Monaro Shire Council undertook a detailed bicycle strategy. After extensive community consultation, a survey found the community’s number one priority was the construction of a learner bike track at Nijong Oval.

The track will be designed, similar to Learn to Ride Centres in the ACT. The centre will have the look and feel of a real, road environment, and offer a safer space for young cyclists to hone their riding skills. The centre includes footpaths, pedestrian crossings, line markings, and road signs.
