I am continually impressed with our region’s ability to host events. One of the best events in the Snowy Monaro is the Lake Jindabyne Flowing Festival.

Banjo Paterson Park was definitely the place to be on the weekend as thousands turned out for the Flowing Festival to watch the dragon boat racing, peruse market stalls and enjoy the entertainment on offer.

Around 500 paddlers from across the state competed in the Lake Jindabyne Dragon Boat Challenge.

I had a fantastic day-out, watching the dragon boat racing and taking in the atmosphere of the Flowing Festival.

Congratulations to the Lake Jindabyne Snow Dragons club for organising the best Flowing Festival so far.

Last week, it was announced the Country Universities Centre (CUC) will receive $8 million to expand the successful CUC model throughout regional NSW. The funding will allow more centres to be opened, and increase the opportunities for people living outside metropolitan areas to access tertiary education.

The CUC Snowy Monaro (located in Cooma) was the first centre established back in 2013. Council is proud to partner with the CUC Snowy Monaro to provide a local facility where our community can access tertiary education.

The centre has more than 200 registered students completing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at 28 Australian universities.

The CUC provides access to campus-level technology, facilities, tutors and a network of fellow students.

Residents wishing to continue the residential aged care conversation will have the opportunity to do so throughout 2019.

A series of community gatherings are planned, as a follow on from the report presented to Council in 2018, as part of the Residential Aged Care Review.

On Tuesday, gatherings were held in Bombala and Cooma and on Wednesday the conversation continues in Berridale and Jindabyne.

If you wish to come along and have your say, the Berridale conversation will be held in the Berridale Community Hall from 4pm, and the Jindabyne conversation will be held in the Memorial Hall from 7pm.
