Oodles of Noodles: Campsie's Lunar New Year

This year’s Lunar New Year comes to a spectacular close, with a huge festival planned at Campsie’s Anzac Mall this Friday.Oodles of noodles, delicious dumplings and authentic food stalls are just some of the tantalising delights you can experience. There will also be cultural entertainment, roving characters and the God and Goddess of fortune handing out lucky envelopes. One of the many stallholders, Kalayanee Lewington, has been selling her home-made Thai cuisine at events for more than 25 years.“I travel around the state and my most popular dishes are green curry, pad thai, satay chicken skewers and curry puffs – and most of these have a vegetarian option,” Ms Lewington said.“I love serving my food at events, and this Friday I’ll be bringing along my husband and son because I loved last year’s noodle market so much.“I really hope to see lots of people there and I encourage them to pop in and say hello, and try out my authentic dishes.”The event will also feature free kids face painting and traditional lion dance parading through the Anzac Mall and Anzac Park.Mayor Khal Asfour said the City needed more multicultural festivals like this, and he is proud to celebrate Lunar New Year.“We must embrace different cultures, and showcase the dynamic mix of languages, customs and traditions,” Mayor Asfour said.“I want to wish our residents that are celebrating Lunar New Year a safe and prosperous Year of the Tiger.”Mayor Asfour said he was looking forward to trying out the noodles and dumplings. The Campsie Lunar Noodle Market will be COVIDSafe and held from 5-9pm on Friday 18 February.
