The brand new Riverbank Park adventure playspace in Yass was officially opened today by Minister for Regional NSW, Tara Moriarty, Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman MP, and Yass Valley Mayor, Allan Mcgrath.

The adventure playspace was designed with the help of the Yass Valley community and received $2 million from the NSW Government through the Public Spaces Legacy Program.

Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty official opened the playspace today.

“This is a significant investment in great quality public open space that will be enjoyed by both locals and visitors to Yass. I am thrilled we have been able to invest $2 million into the region that will have a long lasting legacy,” Ms Moriarty said.

“Everyone’s needs have been considered in this adventure-based playspace, including a skywalk, mouse walk, flying fox and upgraded facilities.”

Mrs Tuckerman said projects like the Adventure Playspace are incredibly beneficial to the community.

“The NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program is all about growing healthy and sustainable communities by promoting access to nature and recreation, improving the appeal to visitors and enhancing quality of life for residents.

“As the community of Yass continues to grow it is essential that so do the public spaces, I am delighted to see the completion of the Riverbank Park Adventure Playspace.” Mrs Tuckerman said.

Cr Mcgrath also acknowledged the efforts of Yass Valley Council’s planning and development team for their help in securing the funding.

“To be eligible for this funding, council had to make a commitment to accelerate its median assessment timeframe for development applications by 20% between 1 September 2020 and 30 June 2021,” Cr Mcgrath said.

“Without the hard work and dedication of our planning team, we would not have been successful in receiving this much needed funding.”
