New Skatepark Construction to Get Underway in February

Published on 26 January 2024

Construction of Deniliquin’s new skatepark will commence in February, with the initial stage being the demolition of the existing skatepark at McFaull Park on the corner of Edwardes Street and Civic Place.

The master plan is set to revitalise the existing recreation space to provide the Deniliquin community with an area that supports the current landscape while offering a vibrant and enjoyable public space for youth.

The skatepark location is a key part of the lagoon trail green space that runs through the heart of Deniliquin. The skatepark precinct’s new design aims to reflect the natural landscape setting of the living lagoons ecosystems.

Following demolition, Council will carry out civil works on the site, and then construction and landscaping of the new skatepark will commence.

Mayor Cr Peta Betts is excited that the work will soon be underway for the inclusive park.

“Plans for the skatepark have been developed incorporating feedback from the youth of our community, carried out by Council in 2022. It will include facilities suitable for all ages and skill levels, as well as areas for spectators and parents. It will be an inclusive space that our whole community will benefit from,” said Cr Betts.

The new skate park is being funded by the NSW government’s Places to Play program.

The Places to Play program helps to increase equitable access to public open space through a $16.7million investment in projects that provide for adventure, nature and water-based play activities such as mountain biking, scooter and skate places and pump tracks.

The development of the skate park is being undertaken by Independent Concrete Construction.
