Manly Swim Centre teen Hungary for success

Mackellar Girls High school student Charli Brown said it’s a dream come true to be representing Australia in the World Junior Swimming Titles in Hungary this August.Charli is a member of the squad team at Manly Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton Aquatic Centre and her tilt at the world championship comes hot on the heels of her success at the National Swimming Championships in Adelaide. The 16-year-old swimmer took out gold in the 400m individual medley, silver in the 200m individual medley and bronze medals in both the 200m and 400m freestyle. Her achievements she says comes from a lot of hard work with training sessions before and after school, but also strength conditioning at the centre’s fitness centre. For inspiration she loves watching her swim idols on the TV with Stephanie Rice and Libby Trickett her particular favourites. She also cited the camaraderie between herself and the rest of the squad team as motivational.“We’re all really good friends and really push each other to perform our best.”Charli is not the only swimmer showing great potential at the MABC aquatic centre, with six of her fellow squad members also competing at the recent national titles.Centre manager Dan Skakavac said it is the first time that our swimmers have competed under the Manly centre banner and we are delighted with the squad’s outstanding results.“The team picked up numerous medals at the competition with most swimmers achieving their personal best.“We also saw great success at this year’s Australian Surf Life Saving Championships with standouts Lauren Wilson winning the gold medal in the Aquathon and Max Brooks winning the Ironman.
