Privacy Awareness Week – Power Up Your Privacy
Kyogle Council News 6 May 2024

It’s time to ‘power up your privacy’ for Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) – 6-12 May 2024

PAW is an annual event used to raise awareness of privacy issues and the importance of protecting personal information.  This year is all about the ways we can improve transparency, accountability and security when we are using technology.

Transparency

Do the housekeeping – protect your data. Provide informed consent – ready privacy information. Make good choices – Put privacy first.

Accountability

Expect sound practices – ensure organisations that hold or handle your information are good enough. Know your rights – find out what is required by an organisation holding or handling your data. Champion privacy – speak up for your privacy.

Security

Check credentials – keep a look out for scammers. Flex your privacy muscles – have strong varied passphrases and enable multifactor authentication (MFA). Do regular ‘health checks’ – be vigilant, ‘health check’ your accounts and finances.
