On 28 March 2024 the Picton Botanic Gardens Outdoor Performance Stage was officially opened by Mayor Matt Gould and Mr Greg Warren MP (representing Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, Paul Scully MP), with Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan MP, Deputy Mayor Matthew Deeth, Cr Suzy Brandstater, Cr Hilton Gibbs, CEO Ben Taylor and Council staff in attendance.

This project is co-funded by the NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program, which helps to create new public open spaces to meet community needs and make great places to live.

The Outdoor Performance Stage and amenities will provide a permanent entertainment area for community events, ceremonies, concerts, performances and a big screen.

The stage is located at the Picton Botanic Gardens at the end of the Avenue of Trees and is now available for casual hire by community groups and residents to use for private events.

Mayor Matt Gould said, “It was a perfect day to officially open the Picton Botanic Gardens Outdoor Performance Stage and I thank all who attended the celebration, particularly Mr Greg Warren MP who helped me unveil the plaque, representing Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, Paul Scully MP.”

“We have been lucky enough to see the stage in use at our recent Australia Day event and it looked great and worked really well,” Mayor Gould said.

“On behalf of our community I’d like to say thank you to the NSW Government for the funding through NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program,” he said.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said it’s important to support a growing community in areas such as Wollondilly by delivering critical infrastructure and high-quality open spaces.

“This outdoor performance stage, big screen and seating is a fantastic new addition to the Botanic Gardens.”

“With a play space that is accessible to all and further amenities to be built later in the year, I am excited to see how this space is used by the community.” Mr Scully said.

Commenting on the opening ceremony, Mr Greg Warren MP said the outdoor stage would offer locals a space to gather, create and watch live performances for years to come.
