Town of Cambridge Mayor Gary Mack officially inaugurated the Ruislip Safe Active Street launch on 19 March 2024.

Attendees included Planning Minister John Carey MLA, Member for Churchlands Christine Tonkin MLA, Town of Cambridge elected members, representatives from the Department of Transport, West Leederville Primary School staff and parents, and local community groups.

The project, funded by the Department of Transport, involved upgrading Bourneville Street, Ruislip Street, sections of Northwood Street, and Woolwich Street to meet the rigorous standards of a “Safe, Active Street”. Traffic calming measures were implemented, including reducing speed limits to 30km/h, aligning with the Town’s Bicycle Plan and the West Australian Bicycle Network.

Stretching over 3.8km, the Ruislip Safe Active Street supports safe and sustainable transportation infrastructure in Perth. Defined by minimal vehicular traffic and low speeds, Safe Active Streets prioritise cycling and walking, providing safe and convenient routes between parks, schools, shops, and residential areas.
