March Spotlight Volunteer Award Presented to Joel Hall

Published on 19 March 2024

Joel Hall, a coach for the Wembley Districts Junior Cricket Club (WDJCC) Integrated Teams, has volunteered his time over the past two years to make a meaningful impact towards the players he mentors.

Joel has been nominated by WDJCC for the Spotlight on a Volunteer Program, in recognition of his unwavering commitment and exceptional support to the players in the team.

Joel's coaching journey began during his high school days when he learned about opportunities to work with integrated teams through a representative of Autism WA.

Faced with the decision to return to playing cricket or explore coaching, Joel chose the latter as a way to shift his focus from personal achievements to community service and engagement. His decision reflects a core belief in considering others before oneself, which he attributes to his Christian values.

Despite not having a prior affiliation with Wembley Districts during his playing days, Joel embraced the chance to contribute to a cause larger than himself. His coaching style centres around inclusivity and creating an enjoyable environment where every participant feels valued. For Joel, success is defined by the joy his players experience rather than by wins or statistics.

Joel has developed a genuine connection with his players. He recognises and appreciates their unique perspectives on the game, fostering an environment where everyone can learn, play, and embrace their passion for cricket.

One of Joel's most rewarding experiences has been witnessing the personal growth of his players. He values the relationships formed on the field and takes pride in knowing that his contributions extend beyond cricket. Whether it's an individual breakthrough or a collective sense of camaraderie within the team, Joel finds fulfillment in making a positive difference.

Looking ahead, Joel sees himself continuing his involvement with the club for the foreseeable future. Coaching, for him, is not just a means to an end but a fulfilling journey. He remains committed to nurturing the talents and spirits of his players, ensuring that cricket remains a source of joy, growth, and connection for them.

In Joel Hall, Wembley Districts Junior Cricket Club has found a coach who is humble, community focused and passionate about volunteerism.
