Capital Works Program Update - January 2024

Council has an ongoing program of capital works and upgrades to buildings, parks, playgrounds and roads across the Federation Council Region. The following activities were undertaken during January 2024 by Federation Council’s Operations Works teams. 

The teams diligently executed various initiatives, aiming to advance critical projects and address community needs. A comprehensive overview of the undertaken activities is provided below:

Footpath Maintenance Program

Footpath repair program continued, focussing on trip hazards and high pedestrian traffic areas.

Roadside Slashing

Federation Way, Corowa Road, Redlands Road, Byrnedale Road.

Regional Local Roads Repair Program (RLRRP) Grant – Shoulder Rehabilitation

Council secured funds from NSW Government for Regional Local Rural Road Repair Program (RLRRP) to undertake road repairs on sealed and unsealed roads after the floods in late 2022. Council is using this grant to fund Shoulder Rehabilitation on various roads throughout the LGA. Works ongoing in January – Redlands Road.

Table drain maintenance

Endeavours to accelerate our table drain maintenance program were evident this month. Our inspection team diligently commenced maintenance activities, primarily entailing clearing out of table drains.

Sealed Roads

Numerous customer requests for pothole repairs on sealed urban and rural roads have been received and actioned with the Corowa based Flocon patching truck and the Urana based Jet Master patching truck. Work is continuous on all roads such as: Federation Way south/north, Jerilderie Road, Boree Road, Urana/Boree/Morundah/Oakland and Rand township and rural roads.

Heavy Trucks

RLRRP – gravel carting for shoulder rehabilitation Roads to Recovery (R2R) – Gravel carting for heavy patching and rehabilitation works Carting excess spoil from Mulwala to Corowa Landfill for cover & capping

TfNSW – RMCC

Maintenance works under the RMCC agreement continued in January.

Quarries

Planning is well under way for the next phase of blast and crushing at the Balldale and Daysdale quarries. The gravels will be used for upcoming RLRRP, R2R and capital works programs. Awaiting contractor.

Slasher

North: Parks & Gardens team utilising the slasher to complete town approaches and surrounds while the regular operator takes some well-earned leave. South: Howlong-Goombargana Road, Drew Lane, Howlong Burrumbuttock Road.

Corowa Aerodrome

Twice weekly inspections carried out to ensure compliance with the MOS 139. Repairs to lights as required. Herbicide spraying on runway shoulders and around wind indicators. Table drain maintenance, grass runway strip maintenance. Slashing of grass runways to meet MOS 139 compliance, surrounds also slashed to suppress weeds and reduce fire risk.

Covid 19

No Outdoor Operations staff members were affected during January.
