Carys Munks, a Floreat resident for the past 29 years, plays the role of Morgan in The Pool, a water-based Black Swan Theatre production by Steve Rodgers as part of Perth Festival.

The Town of Cambridge, in collaboration with Black Swan State Theatre Company, hosts this innovative production at Bold Park Aquatic by transforming the outdoor swimming pool into a theatrical stage, allowing audiences to experience intimate conversations through personal headsets amidst Bold Park's urban bushlands.

As a part-time Customer Service Officer at Indigo Solutions, an NDIS and aged care provider, Carys brings a unique perspective to her character as a keen enthusiast of equal opportunity, sports, and inclusion as a person living with a left-sided hemiplegia.

Morgan's advocacy for equal access resonates with Carys, who is an active member of Superfins WA, a swimming club for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities.

Carys spends at least two days a week swimming and participates in events like the annual Busselton Jetty swim. Her passion for inclusivity is a driving force behind her involvement in this groundbreaking production.

“The challenge of performing in water with silent cues through headsets is a unique concept and challenging to know when it's your turn for a monologue. But the immersive experience is something special, and I encourage everyone to purchase tickets to immerse themselves in the pool environment,” she said.

Carys emphasises that the production offers aspects of mindfulness, relaxation, and sensory input, culminating in a community aerobics class at the end.

"Anyone is capable in the pool; it's just about confidence," she said.

The Pool production is currently underway till 25 February at Bold Park Aquatic, promising a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience. Tickets are available online.
