Theatregoers can expect romance, humour, drama, and touching moments in the world premiere of The Pool at Bold Park Aquatic.

Presented by the Town of Cambridge and Black Swan State Theatre Company as part of Perth Festival from 9 to 25 February, audiences are invited to immerse themselves in an unprecedented theatrical experience, sitting poolside and getting to know the vibrant characters that frequent the aquatic centre.

Adding a unique and inspiring dimension to the cast is Floreat resident Anna Gray. Living with Down Syndrome, Anna takes on the role of Quinn in this distinctive production. Quinn, a character with dreams of becoming a water aerobics instructor, exudes confidence and sass, drawing parallels to Anna's own passion for pilates and dancing.

Anna’s journey into swimming started at the age of 5 in Claremont, evolving into teenage squad swimming with Superfins WA. The close-knit swimming community and memorable experiences – including the Rottnest Channel Swim in a team – forged lasting friendships.

Anna’s ease with wearing a microphone enhances her performance, allowing the audience to effortlessly connect with Quinn’s dream of water aerobics instruction.

Reflecting on the production, Anna shares a standout memory of filming a water aerobics video for Black Swan on Instagram, highlighting the sense of community among the cast.

“The Pool is not just a play; it's a celebration of life, community spaces, and human connections. Anna's nostalgia for pool memories resonates with the diverse characters and relatable stories in the play, offering something for everyone: romance, humour, drama, and touching moments,” she said.

"This play takes you back and reminds you of the best times relaxing and having fun."

Tickets are available for this extraordinary theatrical journey into the heart of Bold Park Aquatic Centre online until 25 February.
