Discover something different at this year’s Street Arts Festival
City of Fremantle 15 Feb 2024

The Fremantle International Street Arts Festival is returning to the port city this Easter long weekend, showcasing some of the world’s best street performers.

Fremantle’s laneways, parks and streets will be transformed into an open-air theatre from Friday 29 March until Monday 1 April.

The festival will include a new ‘After Dark’ series, promising ‘delightful chaos’ as night falls.

Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said this year’s festival has been carefully curated to appeal to a wide audience.

“Our festivals team is putting together a spectacular lineup of entertainment, including awe-inspiring stilt walkers, an all-female circus troupe, bubble trouble and mermaids in lagoons. Visitors should prepare to be amazed by the eclectic mix of performers from around the globe,” Mayor Fitzhardinge said.

Artists from Germany, USA, UK, Ireland and even Togo will join home-grown talent from Australia, delighting crowds at the largest festival on Fremantle’s event calendar.

From its humble beginnings celebrating Freo’s busking culture in 1999, the world-renowned festival is now the largest of its kind in Australia.

“There will be plenty of new acts to see and best of all, everything is free of charge,” Mayor Fitzhardinge said.

Last year more than 100,000 people experienced the four-day event.

With seven stages located around the city, visitors can choose their own festival adventure and explore Freo in between performances.

The Cappuccino Strip will be closed to traffic, allowing Freo’s famous alfresco dining scene to extend out onto the street.

“The City of Fremantle is proud to present this wonderfully successful event, which is inspired by Freo’s unique, diverse and creative cultural identity,” Mayor Fitzhardinge said.
