Could a Council Grant bring your community project to life?

Applications are now open for three streams of Council grants on offer for 2023-2024 for community projects, events and public art.

The three grant streams include:

Community Initiatives Program: grants of up to $5,000 per organisation on offer with a total pool of $44,200 for investment into inspiring community projects. Events and Festival Sponsorship Program: total pool of $20,000 available this year for grants for community-focused events. Creative Public Spaces Small Grants: $5,000 Creative Public Spaces Small Grant for temporary creative activations and art projects in the Byron Shire.

Applications for all of these programs are open until 12 June 2023.  Further information, eligibility details and the application forms are available from Council’s website Apply for a community grant, arts or events funding

Byron Shire Mayor, Michael Lyon, said the purpose of Council’s investment in the three funding programs was to share small amounts of money that could make a big difference to community groups and help them to deliver amazing outcomes.

“Whether it’s providing scholarships for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, supporting new and exciting community-focused events or helping a group of artists collaborate on an exciting project – Council’s funding programs have been running successfully for many years now and make outstanding projects happen for our community,” Mayor Lyon said.

“It’s one small way we can help to enrich the experiences we have within our community, while building up our skills and our connections to one another,” he said.

“Our grant application processes have been improved over the years so there is no longer a need for a matching contribution from our community organisations and the assessment criteria have been simplified.”

“We expect flood recovery will be continue to be a feature of applications this year, along with projects that help to solve a need or are just a really great idea!”

“We also encourage any event or project that improves access and inclusion in our community and opens up ways for more people to participate,” the Mayor said.
