Plateau Road is now open with a temporary 3-tonne load limit in place. VMS Boards have been updated accordingly, and buses will continue to use alternate routes.

The roadworks are still ongoing, so we encourage drivers to follow road work signage and use caution.

A small traffic control crew will remain on site over the weekend to monitor conditions and implement restrictions if required.

Permanent asphalting works are planned for the evening of Tuesday, 11 April, weather permitting.

Garbage bins should be left out as normal on collection day; however, they may be collected later than usual.

Please call our Customer Service team on 1300 434 434 for information regarding changes to collection times should there be a delay.

We will continue to provide updates on any changes, and thank you for your ongoing patience.

31 March 2023

On Thursday, 30 March, a contractor engaged by Council to undertake stabilisation road works on Plateau Road, Bilgola Plateau struck a gas line, resulting in a fire.

Gas supplier, Jemena, attended the site to shut off the gas supply to the affected area. Fire and Rescue (Hazmat Crews) also attended the scene, managed the incident and extinguished the fire once the gas was shut off.  Jemena is continuing to work on reinstating the gas service to houses in the street.

No one was injured in the incident and no houses were affected.

Council understands the inconvenience to residents and is working with all stakeholders to update residents and resolve the incident.

Incident status

Jemena has now reinstated the gas service to houses on the street.

Plateau Road reopened to limited traffic at approximately 6pm today.  Buses, residents and pedestrians can continue to use this road.

Given the expected wet weather over the weekend, the contractor will have on-site traffic controllers and maintenance crews available to address any minor issues.

As a result of the incident and damage to machinery, we are reviewing options to complete the road resurfacing works and will provide further information soon.

We are working with the contractor to recommence as soon as possible.
