We’re very lucky to have a population of little penguins (Eudyptula minor) living right here on our doorstep. In fact, the population of little penguins at Manly, is the only breeding colony on the NSW mainland.

Some community members recently had a chance to see one of these iconic locals when a little penguin started visiting the rock platforms and beaches along the Manly Scenic Walkway near Fairlight. The penguin is thought to be taking some time onshore to recuperate from an injury and appears to be healing well.

While we’re keeping an eye on the penguin’s welfare in partnership with NPWS, Penguin Warden volunteers and wildlife carers, we ask that you and your pets stay away from the penguin and its habitat to help keep it safe.

What to do if you see the penguin? Keep your distancePlease call the NPWS Duty Officer on 9457 9577 or email Council so it can be taken to Taronga Wildlife Hospital for assessment and care if required.
