Moree And District War Memorial Education Centre and Memorials

Council resolved at its Ordinary Council Meeting held on Thursday 15 December to create a single foyer area between the two licenced areas, being the Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre and the Moree RSL Regional Military Museum, located on the corner of Balo and Albert Streets.

The creation of a foyer will allow both licensees and the public a safe accessible and secure entrance to the building.

This action results from consultation with representatives of the Moree Aboriginal community and members of the RSL Sub-Branch Committee to explain Council’s rights and obligations and what will be respectful to both parties.

The new foyer will ensure the following areas of concern are addressed, including:

Location of door entry into the Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre The fit out to ensure the recognition of all fallen soldiers, including Aboriginal. Appropriate artwork and signage on the walls and doors of the Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre Joint access to toilet facilities The Moree and District World War II Honour Roll to be placed in an appropriate space following consultation with all parties.

This practical solution of a foyer to create one entrance servicing each facility will not impact on their licenced areas and will reduce additional costs of providing an additional toilet within the Museum.

Works will commence in the new year alongside of upgrade works to the entire Moree and District War Memorial Education Centre and Memorials building.
