Applications are now open for Local Heritage Grants

Applications for Council’s 2022/23 Local Heritage Grants Program are now open, with $19,000 in funding available for heritage conservation projects.

Local Heritage Grants aim to contribute to the preservation of structures of historical value and to foster positive attitudes towards heritage and conservation.

First standard biodiversity certification for Yass Valley housing development

Applied for the first time in New South Wales, biodiversity certification will provide up-front protection for the environment at the Woodbury Ridge Estate housing development near Sutton.

Works progress

Safety Around Schools:- Works are well underway at Yass Public School. Use of the dedicated bus lane has commenced and been well received. Internal works continue. Final completion date on track for the middle of June.- Works are also well underway at Gundaroo Public School. The team hopes to finish by early June, weather dependant.- Works are progressing well on the Grand Junction/Morton Avenue pathways project, with stage two underway. Work is expected to be completed by mid-June, weather dependant.- Works are scheduled to commence on the children’s crossing on Rossi Street in mid-June. This work is expected to take a couple of weeks. Fixing Local Roads:- Work is progressing well on Faulder Avenue.- Work is continuing on Morton Avenue but has been delayed by unfavourable ground conditions.- Work is almost complete on Walls Junction Road - the last of the eight roads to be rehabilitated under this grant program.- Works are nearing completion on the next segment of Wee Jasper Road, near Gums Lane. The road remains open, however, there may be short delays.- Murrumbateman Winery Trail is really taking shape. Earthworks are continuing along the final section of Murrumbateman Road.- Shingle Hill Way bridge replacement is progressing well. The contractors are continuing with bulk earthworks on site, while casting off the bridging components is underway off site.- Bango Bridge replacement detailed design work has been approved; on-site work is due to commence later in the year. Safety Upgrade works:- Works on Murrumbateman Road are close to completion.- The safety improvement works on Mulligans Flat Road have commenced.- The Nanima Road safety upgrade works have commenced. The Heavy Patching Program for 2022 is going well; this will be wrapped up in the next few weeks. Geotechnical investigation and design work is continuing on Back Creek Road. The tree removal works are set to commence in June. Road rehabilitation works on Hillview Drive have commenced. The road is open, however, there may be short delays.

Development and Standards Engineer Closing: 5:00 pm Monday, 30 May To oversee Council’s transport and drainage development engineering referrals and develop associated engineering standards.

WHS Officer Closing: 5:00 pm Monday, 30 May The WHS Officer will work closely across all sections in the organisation to provide quality workplace, health and safety guidance.

Coordinator Library Services Closing: 5:00 pm Monday, 30 May The position has overall responsibility for managing operations and technical aspects of the Yass Valley Library Service.

Trainee Building Certifier Closing: 5:00 pm Monday, 6 June To gain skills and knowledge to gain registration as a Building Certifier (A3) under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018.

Development Planner Closing: 5:00 pm Monday, 6 June The primary purpose of this position is to undertake development assessment functions in accordance with relevant legislation.
