Landholders urged to notify and follow rules of safe burning

Residents and landholders are reminded of the need to notify fire agencies before lighting hazard reductions and pile burns now that the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period has come to a close in NSW.

Works progress

The following roads will be temporarily closed during ANZAC Day commemorations: Comur Street, Yass; Fitzroy St, Binalong; Harp St, Gundaroo and Victoria St, Sutton. Detours will be in place. Adventure Playspace at Riverbank Park – awaiting detailed design before proceeding to tender. Safety Around Schools – contractors are working on Laidlaw Street to create a dedicated bus lane for Yass Public School. The road will remain open, however, there may be short delays. Contractors will begin work on the entry to Yass Pool carpark from 1 April. The carpark will be closed for a few days. Skatepark and dog park users can alternatively park at Victoria Park. Work has begun on the Gundaroo Public School Safety upgrades – work should be finished by early May, weather permitting. Work is progressing well on the Grand Junction/Morton Avenue pathways project; work on the road has commenced and changed traffic conditions will be in place for several weeks. Work has begun on the next segment of Wee Jasper Road, near Gums Lane. The road will remain open, however, there may be short delays. Work has begun on Faulder Avenue. The road will be closed and a detour will be in place from 11-15 April. Murrumbateman Winery Trail – earthworks are continuing along the final section of Murrumbateman Road. Nanima Road Stage Two – works are progressing well and continuing on-site. Shingle Hill Way bridge replacement – contractors are continuing with earthworks and casting works off site. Bango Bridge replacement – design work is underway; on-site work is due to commence in May. Morton Avenue – work is continuing on site but has been delayed by unfavourable ground conditions. Safety upgrades on Murrumbateman Road are underway. The Heavy Patching Program is going well; this will be wrapped up in a couple of months. Work on Walls Junction Road rehabilitation is going well. Preliminary investigation and design work is underway on Back Creek Road. The tender for the Mulligans Flat Road and Nanima Road safety upgrades has been awarded. Work will begin in the next few weeks. The tender for Murrumbateman landfill capping and rehabilitation has been awarded. Work will begin mid-May and is due to be completed by 30 June 2022.

Yass Valley Animal Shelter

Available for adoption – male kelpie found on Laverstock Road, Bowning. He is a friendly, quiet dog. Available for adoption – Hunter – a 14-month-old male, desexed, large breed Bull Arab x Greyhound. He’s very friendly, loves walks and is an indoor/outdoor dog.
