Only one week ‘til Australia Day

While it might feel like Christmas was only yesterday, we’re only a week away from Australia Day – next Wednesday 26 January.

The theme this year is “reflect, respect, celebrate” and we encourage all of you to take some to time to reflect on what it means to be Australian, our shared history, respecting the contributions of all Australians and celebrating the lucky country.

There’s plenty on right across the Snowy Monaro from fishing competitions in Bredbo to breakfast in Jindabyne, so head to www.snowymonaro.nsw.gov.au/759/ for all the details.

Don’t forget that on Saturday 29 January in Bombala, local winners in the NSW Local Citizen of the Year Awards will be officially announced at the weekend Australia Day festivities in the southern part of our region.

Orange Hawkweed flowering season

One of the most highly invasive emerging biosecurity threats in our region is at the height of its flowering season.

Throughout summer the plant bears bright orange flowers in tight clusters of four or more. There are black hairs on the stems and the leaves that enclose the base of the flower heads.

Please keep an eye open when you’re out and about enjoying the warm weather. If you think you’ve spotted Orange Hawkweed please call us on 1300 345 345 anytime and our biosecurity team will get onto it.
