Council services reopen

The library, visitor information centre and Council’s administration building have reopened to the public.

Anyone visiting these premises must:

Wear a mask at all times inside; Check in upon entry; Have proof of vaccinations ready to show staff.

Council to use marker dye when spraying weeds

Yass Valley Council will soon begin using biodegradable marker dye with all glyphosate applications to make it easier for people to see where the herbicide has been sprayed.

The dye will appear a pink-purple colour once sprayed and is not classified as hazardous.

Funding to fix Back Creek Road

Safer journeys are on the way for Yass Valley Council with Back Creek Road being awarded $2.9m under the latest round of the Fixing Local Roads Program, with the aim to improve journeys for regional communities, farmers and freight.

Works progress

The Gundaroo Recreation Ground amenities building upgrade is on track to be completed by the end of October. Murrumbateman Winery Trail – asphalt work has been undertaken on part of Murrumbateman Road and the earthworks for the concrete sections on Hercules Street and McIntosh Circuit have now commenced. This will be completed over the coming weeks. Nanima Road Stage One – completed. Nanima Road Stage Two – works have now commenced on site. Shingle Hill Way bridge replacement – work is now underway on site; the contractors are working off the road with no disruptions to motorists. Illalong Road – work is progressing well on site and should be completed in a couple of weeks. Morton Avenue – work has commenced on site. Cusack Place – rain has delayed this project starting. Dog Trap Road – the whole road has now been sealed. Heavy patching has now commenced and will be ongoing over the next few months. Resealing works to commence early October. The first tender for our safety around schools projects is out. This includes Yass Public School, Berinba Public School, Gundaroo Public School and Mt Carmel School. The Murrumbateman Road tender under our Black Spot Program is out. Bango Bridge replacement tender is live. Survey and design work is underway for some of our Blackspot and Safer Roads projects.

Public Consultation

Proposed lease of Yass Memorial Pool and surrounds for the purpose of constructing and operating a heated pool and associated facilities Closing: 5:00 pm Thursday, 14 October Yass Valley Council is proposing to seek expressions of interest from private companies to lease an area of land near Yass Memorial Pool to build and operate an indoor heated pool and associated facilities.

Vacancies

Lifeguard (multiple) Closing: This position will remain open until we have fully staffed our pool for the 2021/22 season. The Lifeguard position provides supervision and swimming lessons to Yass Valley community members during the summer pool season. The position also maintains the pool facilities and provides emergency rescue, first aid support, and ensures a safe environment for clients, colleagues and members of the public.

ICT Support Officer Closing: 5:00 pm Monday, 25 October This position will provide information technology and communications support and advice to clients using Council’s information systems, computing and telecommunications equipment.

Tenders

Timber Bridge Replacements Closing: 2:00 pm Wednesday, 13 October Gundagai Regional Council and Yass Valley Council are seeking contractors to undertake the replacement of six timber bridges, including Bango Lane Bridge.
