Have your say on the Draft Bellinger & Kalang Floodplain Plan, which aims to reduce the impact of localised flooding on property owners and those who reside on flood prone land in our Shire.

Bellingen Shire Council Mayor, Cr Dominic King, said the Draft Strategy & Plan aims to determine the extent of our Shire’s flood problem and evaluate management options for existing and proposed developments.

“The Draft Plan examines flooding caused by the Bellinger and Kalang Rivers and identifies flood mitigation works to protect existing development and the use of Local Environmental Plans to ensure new development is compatible with flood hazards.”

“So, if you live in or adjacent to flood prone land in our Shire, I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to review the Draft Strategy & Plan and provide your thoughts and ideas regarding the plan’s flood management options.”

Cr King said the Draft Bellinger & Kalang Floodplain Plan has been placed on public exhibition on Council’s online engagement portal Create and at Council’s Bellingen Administration Centre.

“Ultimately, your feedback on the Draft Strategy & Plan will inform Council’s final review of the Strategy & Plan to ensure that the mitigation options it identifies reduce the impact of flooding on our community now and into the future.”
