Local Volunteers Sought for Corindi BlazeAid Work

Volunteers from BlazeAid have set up camp in Corindi to help those storm-affected residents repair and replace damaged fencing from the February storm – and they are looking for volunteers to join them.

BlazeAid is a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and individuals in rural Australia after disasters such as fires and storms to rebuild fences and other structures.  BlazeAid relies on the support of volunteers and local communities to keep them fed and housed as they provide the free assistance.

The Corindi Camp has a small team of volunteers so they are looking for enthusiastic locals to help ramp-up the recovery efforts to rebuild around 27 Kilometres of fencing that was lost during the February storm event and subsequent flooding.

“BlazeAid provides vital recovery assistance in helping with physical recovery, but more importantly their presence buoys the community and contributes to the overall community recovery,” said Melinda Brooks, Coffs Harbour City Council’s Community Recovery Officer – Bushfires.

“This is the third time Council has worked with BlazeAid in the past 12 months and their commitment and assistance is greatly appreciated.”

BlazeAid Camp Coordinator, Bob Abdoo, says the local volunteers do not need to have fencing expertise.

‘We provide on-the-job training and any time volunteered – whether it’s one day or a week – will help us achieve positive results for the Corindi community.”
