Snowy Monaro Regional Council provides access to and coordination of a large scale aerial weed-spraying program, with landholders, urged to apply for this autumn period. Spraying will occur throughout May ahead of winter.

This program runs twice each year and Council acts as the coordinating body to offer advice, identification, mapping and assistance in liaising with neighbouring properties as part of the program.

“By participating in our biannual program, landholders gain access to much cheaper rates for both the aerial spraying and the associated herbicide purchases,” said Mayor Peter Beer, Snowy Monaro Regional Council.

“Council is proud to provide its services as coordinator and community partner in this annual program, and offers its services in this regard free-of-charge to all participating landholders.”

The minimum property area eligible for participating in program is 10 hectares, which equates to the size of one helicopter-load of herbicide.

Participating landholders are further encouraged to participate in a fly-over of their property prior to the spraying. This ensures that all areas to be sprayed are correctly identified, as well as making sure that sensitive areas and property boundaries are respected.

“While weed control is the responsibility of landholders, Council are always very interested in doing what we are able to make the lives of our farmers and rural residents easier,” said Mayor Peter Beer.
