Temporary Closure of Marsden Swamp Road, Lowther

8 April, 2021

Council advises residents of the temporary road closure of Marsden Swamp Road, Lowther. Following the recent disaster declared flooding event, a section of Marsden Swamp Road, adjacent to Ryans Creek has collapsed, 2.0km from Jenolan Caves Road.

Council understands the importance of resilient access to our remote villages and communities. As a matter of priority, Council have engaged contractors to commence emergency works to replace the dilapidated existing under road drainage with an upgraded concrete culvert and armouring to prevent erosion.

Works are planned to commence early April 2021 and expected to take four (4) to six (6) weeks, weather permitting. This work is being conducted to restore access and best ensure reliable access into the future.

Council appreciates the Lithgow community’s patience, and will rectify the issue as soon as possible. While Council has conducted assessments of priority transport infrastructure impacted across the region, resources are limited. Restoration works post storm have been prioritised and will be attended to in due course.

If there are any enquires or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Council.
