Miners Memorial in final stages of construction
Cobar Shire Council 29 Mar 2021

The Cobar Miners Memorial is a new structure currently being built in the Heritage Park at Cobar. A project, that has been driven by the community for many years, will be a special place for reflection that will be open to the public and will allow a location for services and community gatherings, when it officially opens later this year.

The project is the construction of a unique memorial dedicated to the 173 men who lost their lives mining in Cobar Shire.

Designed by the community to replicate a mining shaft, the memorial will give visitors a feel for the mining environment.

The memorial will be a show case of local materials, built by a local contractor and will create a new tourist attraction and provide a base for community gatherings. The memorial acknowledges the Cobar history and identity and is significantly important to the Cobar Community.

The Cobar Miners Memorial is jointly funded by the Australian Governments Building Better Regions Fund, the State Governments Stronger Country Communities Fund, Cobar Shire Council and Community fundraising and donations.

The project is in the final stages of construction and is being built by local Contractor, As Per Plan Constructions. (Photo contributed by As Per Plan).
