With school back in session this week, it’s a timely reminder about staying safe in our cars around schools.

School zones

School zones are now back in force (from Wednesday 27 January, 8am). Even if students haven’t returned, the zones are in force.

School zones typically run from 8-9.30am and 2.30-4pm on every gazetted NSW Public School day. Fines and demerit points are higher for speeding in school zones, so ensure you slow down before you reach the zone.

School drop-offs and pick-ups

Getting your kids to and from school can be a busy and stressful time of day. No one likes waiting in long queues at Kiss and Drop or battling for a spot to park.

Try this instead:

Park in nearby streets and walk a short distance to school.Park at a nearby playground and meet other families for a play before or after school.Arrive at school pick-up zones a few minutes after the bell to avoid the rush. You could also try car-pooling, walking, riding a bicycle or taking a bus.

The benefits of avoiding school parking stress include less stress, reducing traffic, improving road safety for our children, reducing inconvenience for surrounding residents and modelling positive behaviour and healthy lifestyle choices to your children.
