Nominees for the Lachlan Shire Council 2021 NSW Local Citizen of the Year Awards have been announced. The awards will be presented to the winners on Australia Day, January 26, 2021 by Mayor John Medcalf OAM at the SRA Pavilion, Condobolin at 8:00am.

The Lachlan Shire nominees for 2021 are as follows.

Tate Dwyer, 10, of Lake Cargelligo has been nominated for his community spirit. At the beginning of the year, Tate helped raise funds for the RFS and to buy school bags and essentials for bushfire victims. He raised funds by baking cookies and selling some of his toys. Tate also is growing his hair to donate to Wigs for Kids and is raising funds for Variety through a donation page.

Katy Quinn, 24, of Lake Cargelligo is a youth worker who has been instrumental in raising funds for the Down The Track Program. She is a crusader for change and a guiding light for young people in her community. In 2012, she spent a month in Japan helping to rebuild communities devastated by the earthquake and tsunami.

Holly Leighton, 12, of Condobolin, is a school captain at her school and is known as a mature and caring school leader. She represents her community with admirable sportsmanship in her netball and physie teams, and with flair and humility in her musical pursuits.

Emily Sinderberry, 23, of Condobolin continually contributes significantly to her community, including with her leadership of the Chamber of Commerce. She has initiated community support campaigns such as the Seed Scheme, launched an online rural job platform, overseen the Business Awards and hosted Rural Women in Business workshops.

Gail Copeland, 75, of Condobolin has made a significant contribution to the community over many years. Gail is a community volunteer for various community organisations and is incredibly generous with her time.

Lana Masterson, 31, of Lake Cargelligo is Co-ordinator of the NSW Youth Service of the Year award-winning Down The Track Program. Lana’s tireless work with disengaged local youth has won her national recognition and awards.

Lana has also been named as an Australia Day Ambassador after being nominated for an Australian of the Year Award in the local hero category and shortlisted in the top 4.

‘Congratulations to all the exceptionally worthy nominees shortlisted for the 2021 NSW Local Citizen of the Year Awards, I am very much looking forward to Australia Day 2021 to meet these local treasures.” said Mayor John Medcalf OAM.

“I strongly encourage and hope to see the community support and recognise these Lachlan Shire local heroes. It is a huge honour to be nominated for a Lachlan Shire Local Citizen of the Year Award, please come and support your peers at the Lachlan Shire Award Ceremony held at the SRA Pavilion, Condobolin, 8am Tuesday 26th January.”
