UPDATE Thursday 17 December: The rescission motion was defeated 6-3, with councillors Innes, Brown, Nathan, Pollock, Tait and Thomson against, and councillors Mayne, Constable and McGinlay for. Council will commence lease negotiations with SEARMS as per the motion of 8 December 2020.

An extraordinary meeting of Eurobodalla Council will be held on Thursday 17 December.

The meeting will consider a notice of motion brought by Cr Anthony Mayne to rescind Council’s decision to lease Batemans Bay Community Centre.

Councillors voted 6-3 on Tuesday 8 December to commence negotiations with local Aboriginal housing corporation SEARMS to lease the centre commencing July 2021.

Cr Mayne’s motion calls for Tuesday’s decision to be rescinded and “that Council resolve to maintain the Community Centre as currently being operated; with a review of those operations and functions being undertaken after the completion of the Batemans Bay Aquatic, Arts and Leisure Centre.”

Crs Lindsay Brown and Rob Pollock wrote to Mayor Liz Innes on Friday to request an extraordinary meeting to consider the rescission motion, as the council’s next scheduled meeting was in February 2021. Lease negotiations with SEARMS cannot proceed while a rescission motion is in place.

Thursday’s extraordinary meeting starts at 2pm and will be held via Zoom.

A public forum session allowing residents to address the agenda item will be held on the same day from 9.30-10.30am. Speakers must register before 12pm Wednesday 16 December at [email protected] or by calling 4474 1358.
