Local Government NSW Annual Conference The Local Government NSW Annual Conference was a little different this year, with attendees from nearly all local councils in NSW dialling in last week to participate online. Presentations were delivered by NSW Premiere Gladys Berejiklian, Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock, and the Shadow Minister for Local Government, Greg Warren. Presenters acknowledged that the last 12 months have been very difficult, but noted that local councils have been the cornerstone for information and assistance for the general public. All also stated that the next year will be difficult for councils financially. I’m proud to note, however, that our council is considered to be one of the merged councils that is faring well in regards to service delivery, but there is room for improvement throughout the region. A number of motions were passed at the conference to press for additional funding for local government councils throughout NSW to cover the increased cost of functions we are being asked to undertake by the state government.

In the Community I had a wonderful morning at Yallambee lodge last week, enjoying morning tea and conversation with a number of the residents. My thanks to the staff for inviting me along. I congratulate them on the cleanliness of the centre and the care they provide to those in their charge. On 25 November I attended the AGM of the Southern Cross Housing Group in Nowra. This company manages the social and affordable housing in our local government area. It is hoped that more of this type of housing can be provided, especially with the pressure now placed upon the housing stock in our region.
