Proposed 40km/h High Pedestrian Activity Area
Cobar Shire Council 2 Dec 2020

Cobar Shire Council is proposing to install a 40km/h High Pedestrian Activity Area for the CBD area and welcome your feedback on the proposal.

Introduction

Cobar Shire Council is proposing the installation of a 40km/h High Pedestrian Activity Area for the CBD section of Marshall St.

Cobar sits on the crossroads of two major highways traversing North-South and East-West, with all East-West traffic required to travel Marshall St. Due to surrounding residential area, diverting this traffic around town is not a viable option at this point in time. However, to increase safety, the proposal is to slow traffic as it passes through the CBD area and highlight the transition to a local CBD area from highway.

Proposed Zone

The proposed area incorporates 3 blocks of Marshall St, commencing at Western side of Lewis Street intersection through to the Western side of Bourke Street intersection, at the current pedestrian crossing. The 40km/h High Pedestrian Activity Area will also incorporate one block either side of Marshall St on Barton and Linsley Streets.

The streets selected have been identified to capture majority of pedestrian movements within Cobar CBD.
