Council News - 28 October 2020

The Henry Lawson Festival Committee held their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 21 October 2020 with the new executive elected as follows:

President:  Belinda Power

Vice President:  Chad White

Secretary:  Kelly Hillsley

Assistant Secretary:  Cathy Gilbert

Treasurer:  Ray Smith

Assistant Treasurer:  Angela Hundy

Congratulations and thank you to the newly appointed Executive for taking on your respective roles which is very much appreciated.

In regards to the appointment of co-ordinators, it was decided that due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic this will be deferred until the December Meeting where we will have a better idea of the situation with the virus as well as restrictions associated with outdoor events. A recommendation can then be made to Council regarding a decision on whether or not the event proceeds. As there is an enormous amount of planning for the event a decision will have to be made as early as possible particularly in regards to conducting various competitions and engaging entertainers.

To assist in the decision making process an internal decision timeline is currently being developed. This is a useful tool to assist organisations in making considered decisions in regards to events during the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic for the greater good of their communities. It establishes a framework that identifies milestones and dates that trigger certain decisions. The internal decision timeline has been used by Tamworth and Parkes Councils to make decisions on events which is a very difficult process particularly as we have not experienced a pandemic of this magnitude before. The timeline will be submitted to the November Council meeting for adoption prior to being utilised by the Committee in December.

To assist in the future direction of the festival and in particular post COVID-19 it was also resolved that a full review of the event be undertaken. An external consultant will be engaged to facilitate this process which will give us a clear direction for the festival in the future.
