Australian Poetry Slam: same rules, same passion, now online for 2020!

Blue Mountains Library and Slam organisation – Word Travels – are hosting the Blue Mountains heats of Australian Poetry Slam via Zoom on Thursday 20 August. This is the 12th year the heats have been held at Blue Mountains Library.

Up to 20 poets will perform at the event that promises to be a defiant and vibrant celebration of spoken-word poetry, delivering the honesty and energy of the usual live performances straight to your smartphone, tablet or computer.

Live performances from this year’s Slam host, three-time Australian Poetry Slam finalist and two-time national runner up Andi Stewart, will also guarantee the usual Slam energy and excitement at the event.

Are you the next Australian Poetry Slam Champion?

Poets have two minutes to perform their original work - no props, no costumes, no music. All you need is a desire to write, a willingness to read your poetry publicly, a little creativity and a way with words!

The audience will have an opportunity to be randomly selected as judges, and the top two poets of the evening will go on to represent the Blue Mountains in the APS Western Sydney Final, with the opportunity to progress to state heats and national finals.

Register to perform or be in the audience and cheer along. Bookings are essential.

More information is available on the Blue Mountains Library website.
