Transport for NSW: Motorists to slow down in Yass Valley

Transport for NSW Media Release

The drive through Yass will be safer with changes to speed limits in Yass Valley local government area.

Transport for NSW Director South West Lindsay Tanner said Transport for NSW carried out a review of speed zones on Gums Lane and Laidlaw Street at Yass to improve safety.

“The reviews assessed a number of factors including crash history, road use, traffic volumes, pedestrian activity and property accesses,” Mr Tanner said.

“The review recommended reducing the speed limit on Gums Lane from 100 km/h to 80 km/h along the sealed length of Gums Lane from the intersection of Wee Jasper Road for a distance of about 1.2 kilometres.

“It also recommended reducing the speed zone on Laidlaw Street (Yass Valley Way) from 70 km/h to 50 km/h from 40 metres south of Orion Street to 80 metres north west of Wargeila Road.

“These new speed limits will reduce the likelihood of crashes and provide safer conditions for all road users with a minimal increase in travel times.”

The new speed limits will take effect from Wednesday, 19 August.

Signs will be in place to advise motorists of the changed traffic conditions.

Road users are asked to keep an eye out for the changes and to follow the directions of signs.

Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and to have a say on speed limits.
