Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre (CPAC) is set to be framed as one of the world’s great art galleries with the Liverpool City Council venue recently accepted into the Google Arts & Culture program.

South West Sydney’s premier arts destination will now take its place alongside galleries such as New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, London’s National Gallery, Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum and St Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum on the tech giant’s digital platform.

The partnership will allow CPAC to showcase local artists, new acquisitions and other selected works from the Liverpool City Council collection to a global audience through the Google Arts & Culture online portal and app.

CPAC is the first Western Sydney gallery to be selected for the initiative.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said the Google Arts & Culture partnership was a testament to CPAC’s place at the centre of a vibrant South West Sydney arts scene.

“Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre is the first gallery in Western Sydney to be afforded this status but it’s not really a surprise, given the hard work by CPAC Director Craig Donarski and the team,” she said.

“This is a real testament to the esteem in which the venue is held for its powerful championing of our wonderful artists.

“I’m incredibly proud of what the centre has achieved since it opened to the public in 1994, with world-class exhibitions, festivals and a fantastic in-house restaurant, Bellbird Dining & Bar, just some of its many great offerings and achievements,” Mayor Waller added.

CPAC Director Craig Donarski said inclusion on the Google Arts & Culture platform would present the gallery’s collection to a worldwide audience.

“This is a real coup for Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and a testament to the depth and breadth of our artistic community’s achievements,” Mr Donarski said.

“And not just our contemporary creators – the collaboration with the Google Arts & Culture program will allow art audiences to appreciate extraordinary works from our collection going back decades, from wherever they happen to be in the world.”

It is expected CPAC’s collection will go live on the Google Arts & Culture platform later this year. Head to www.casulapowerhouse.com for information about current exhibitions at CPAC.
