Invitation to join a Council webinar on homelessness

Published on 05 June 2020

Ending homelessness is possible and it is not normal or something we should accept.

These are the words of David Pearson, CEO of the Australian Alliance to End Homelessness and Advisor with the Institute of Global Homelessness (IGH), who will be one of two key speakers at Council’s free Zoom webinar on Tuesday 9 June.

The second key speaker will be Christine McBride, inaugural CEO of the recently formed End Street Sleeping.

Christine has been working in the social services sector for the last 25 years and her most recent role at the City of Sydney had a strong focus on homelessness interventions.

“We’re encouraging everyone with an interest in the complex issue of rough sleeping and homelessness to register for this free webinar on Tuesday and join us as we learn about national and international examples of ending rough sleeping  and explore how that might be possible in the Byron Shire,” Council’s Public Space Liaison Officer, Nick Carlile, said.

“Part of my job as a Public Space Liaison Officer for Byron Shire Council is to connect with our Shire’s rough sleeping and homeless people every day, to build relationships and support these vulnerable members of our community and to help them get the services they need.

“If ending rough sleeping in Byron Shire is possible then we need to do everything we can to learn about how to make this a reality,” he said.

The free webinar on 9 June will run from 10.30am - 1pm.  To register in advance for this webinar go to:
