Playgrounds and outdoor gyms open - practice good hygiene

Our playgrounds have been reopened to the public.

Fairfield City Council has reopened more than 200 playgrounds and outdoor gyms for the community to use in line with NSW Health guidelines.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone is encouraging families to get healthy by visiting their local playgrounds and outdoor gyms while still practising social distancing.

“Children and families love our City’s playgrounds and I know it has been hard telling our kids that they can’t play there,” Mayor Carbone said.

“The outdoor gyms are also popular for people doing their daily exercise outside, so it’s great that we can open them up again for the community to use. We just ask users to make sure they wipe down equipment before and after use, especially the outdoor gym equipment. We all need to take responsibility for our safety while using the facilities.

“We are very fortunate to not have been heavily impacted at this stage by Coronavirus in our City. With the gradual lifting of restrictions however, we cannot become complacent.

“We ask you to wipe down equipment before and after use, remember to use hand sanitiser, and no more than 10 people can be in the playground or outdoor gyms at any one time. It’s also crucial that you maintain your social distancing.

“The health and well-being of our community remains Council’s priority. Please play your part in controlling the spread of Coronavirus, so we can continue to ease restrictions and enjoy our City’s outdoor spaces.

“Council staff will be removing existing closed signage over the coming days. I assure you that all playgrounds and outdoor gyms are available for use with the required social distancing measures.

Council is lighting up 13 sporting fields across the City until 7.30pm every day. This allows residents to exercise outside work hours while still observing important social distancing measures. See the full list of sports fields at https://bit.ly/FairfieldSportfields.

Council will continue to update the community on changes to its services as and when changes occur on social media and its website. For a full list of changes, visit www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/coronavirus.
