Council News - 22 April 2020 PRESS RELEASE COVID-19 Coronavirus – Council Services Update

The COVID-19 Coronavirus is continuing to have an impact on Communities and Council services.

As Council is deemed an essential service, services such as sewer, garbage collection and garbage tips continue to be maintained. The Grenfell Waste Facility is open for Shire residents only with the recovery shop closed. Council’s administration office remains open with social distancing measures put in place at the service counter. Council’s staff both indoor and outdoor are doing an excellent job continuing to provide these essential services to the community in these difficult times.

While a number of essential services are being maintained the situation will continue to be monitored and decisions will be made accordingly.

There are however, various services closed to the public until further notice which are detailed below:

Grenfell Public Library Grenfell VIC Grenfell Internet Centre Grenfell Aquatic Centre and Quandialla Pool Grenfell Caravan Park and Railway Station Free Camping Grenfell Museum Grenfell Skatepark Local Parks

Staff at the Grenfell VIC, Internet Centre and Caravan Park are still available to assist the community and they are available on their respective contact numbers during business hours. Council’s sporting fields are restricted to passive recreational use only until further notice and street stalls are now in recess due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Council’s librarian is now also undertaking a delivery service by arrangement within the Grenfell Town limits. Council elections which were to be held in September this year have been deferred for 12 months or possibly until 31 December 2021.

We are currently experiencing unprecedented times and while the closures and reduction of services is inconvenient they are crucial measures we need to take to deal with this global pandemic.

The patience and understanding of the community is very much appreciated.

Advertisements QUANDIALLA-CARAGABAL ROAD CLOSURE

Residents are hereby advised that Council Engineers have been forced to close Quandialla-Caragabal Road. This decision was made due to a washout of the sidetrack.

Council will continue to monitor the situation until the surface is sufficiently safe to travel on. This may take several weeks due to predicted rainfall.

An alternate route via Driftway Road has been provided for all traffic. A 20km/hour speed limit will be enforced along this single lane detour as a result of the load-limited structure. Further information is available on Council's Current Detours page.

Council will be replacing the relevant culvert on Quandialla-Caragabal Road in the coming months.

Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.
