Council opens a second round of 2019/2020 Community Grants

Yass Valley Council has opened a second round of 2019/2020 Community Grants applications to provide funding for community projects and initiatives in the Yass Valley.

Grants made under the program are for projects or initiatives which contribute to the achievement of one or more of eight identified strategies of the Regional Community Strategic Plan 2016-2036.

Council has already provided almost $14,000 in financial assistance to the following four community organisations under the first round of this year’s Community Grants Program.

Wee Jasper Community Association - $4,000 for sanding and sealing of the Wee Jasper Hall dance floor and kitchen floor. Yass Pony Club - $4,000 for the purchase of portable show-jumps and a trailer. Murrumbateman Landcare Group - $3,200 for an ecological survey of the Murrumbateman Bush Cemetery, signs showing images of flora and fauna found in the cemetery and small scale re-seeding of areas in the cemetery. Yass Railway Heritage Centre - $2,600 for the construction of a replacement roof for a display locomotive.

A grant application-writing workshop was to be conducted on 2 April. Unfortunately, this workshop has had to be postponed as a consequence of the current COVID-19 health situation.

Council has instead prepared notes containing tips to help community organisations to complete Council’s Community Grants application form. These notes are accessible on Council’s website HERE.

“Yass Valley Council is committed to supporting local organisations, which is needed more than ever in the current COVID-19 situation. Grants programs are a way to provide financial assistance to help community organisations continue their worthwhile and generous work in the Yass Valley,” said Mayor Rowena Abbey.

Council still hopes to offer the workshop when it is safe to do so. The workshop is to be facilitated by The Grants Guy, Keith Whelan, and will address application-writing for all types of grants.

Applications for the second round of 2019/2020 Community Grants will be open from Monday, 6 April and close on Friday, 8 May 2020. Application Form 146 - Community Grants - can be accessed HERE.
